When users click “Sign in with Google” on my WooCommerce site, there’s a 2–3 second delay before any browser network activity begins (the page load spinner in the tab doesn’t start). Once it does, the login completes quickly, but the pause makes it seem unresponsive and can lead to repeated clicks. This delay affects UX and may confuse users. Is this expected in Site Kit’s sign-in flow, and is there a way to show immediate visual feedback after the button is clicked? Better yet; a way to improve that speed? I have already made a couple snippets to try and help the speed (ipv6 stuff and preload google stuff). Any help would be amazing.

Hi there @alienjackhammer, thanks for reaching out. Thanks for explaining your question in detail with regards to the delay when clicking the sign in with Google button. While there will naturally be a small delay when clicking this, it’s possible that there are other contributing factors to this such as active plugins/themes, hosting/server configurations among many other things.

When testing myself on your website I didn’t experience any such delay which is positive. I can check this further with the team to be sure but if you’d like to share any recording of your experience along with any other information then please feel free to do so.

I will share an update here once I have discussed further with the team.

Thanks. I was able to shave about a second off by not deferring the javascript on this page. I really think what I would like from the development team is a way to get visual feedback to the customer. Spinning icon.. dim screen… or something. I spent a whole day trying different things to no avail. UX is my main focus. Really do appreciate you.

@alienjackhammer Nice work and thanks for the update. I have discussed this with the team and the delay is down to the Sign in with Google button’s code and logic. This is out of our control so there isn’t anything at this stage that we can do.

We will continue to look for ways to improve this and if there is anything we can we will. But as it stands, there aren’t any improvements we can make. Thanks for getting in touch and please do let us know if you have any other Site Kit questions or issues and we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you. Is there anyway to dim the screen or show visual feedback? I’ve tried multiple ways and haven’t had success.

@alienjackhammer Unfortunately this isn’t configurable through Site Kit at this time. You may find some more useful information here but we can only advise on the Site Kit plugin and its functionality with the sign in with Google module.
