Sorry that you ran into issues here!
Deleting the fields should remove them immediately. The only circumstances under which they would NOT delete could be:
– A caching plugin is preventing the delete request from happening
– There’s a system conflict
Can you please try a conflict test, which will actually test for both. Try that and report back on what you find.

It may be a problem–but I have tested it locally and am not able to reproduce this issue the way you describe above. My fields delete normally.
Can you please report back on the caching and conflict tests I suggested above? I believe they will help get us to the core of the issue.
