After selecting the home page, you have to select menus. Also, you have to create pages and post for the slider and about sections then select them from the customizer.
For that, you have to follow the below steps.
For Menus setup:

Step 1: Go to dashboard >> Appearance >> Menus >> Create a new menu >> Select primary menus and save it.
For slider and about section :
=============================
Step 1: Go to dashboard >> Customizer >> Theme Settings >> Slider Section – Select slider pages and publish it.
Step 2: Go to dashboard >> Customizer >> Theme Settings >> About Section –
Select the post and publish it.

After setup and config, all I see is the menu bar and footer. main content section is not displayed.

Moreover, when applying a template to the homepage, I only see a template labeled “custom home page”, and not purely “home-page”
. Create Page to set template: Go to Dashboard >> Pages >> Add New Page. Label it “home” or anything as you wish. Then select template “home-page” from the template dropdown.
