Difference between a hook, filter and markup?

    I’ve searched high and low for a clear explanation for the difference between a hook, filter and markup. I see what selecting one does on my site but I don’t know how to use them. I know what a hook is but what about a filter and markup? Is a markup just highlighting something that is already being pointed out? Thanks

    I just hovered over each hook by chance and got a good explanation from the title attributes. Awesome.
