WordPress 3.0 can now be single, or multi site
multi site allows users to sign up and get their own blogs on your site, or you have many sites
like domain..com, domain.com/site1, domain.com/site2
or domain.com, site1.domain.com, site2.domain.com
all using one WP install. The super admin has some level of control over all the sites…

Buddypress will detect the network being active and add “create a blog!” links.
