Different Attributes for a Variation

I would like to create products with variables that have different attributes, where each model of a particular product will have different information associated with it. Is there a way I can assign different attributes to a specific variation or version of a product? Is this possible? I know I can create attributes and just assign them in the correct order so it looks like it matches up with the model, but I am looking for something more in-depth. Hope this makes sense. Let me know if I need to clear anything up.
