    Hello,

The short answer is yes, you can absolutely use a completely different domain for each language. So if your main site is england.co.uk , your French version can be france.fr . It doesn’t need to follow the same naming pattern like england.fr .

With TranslatePress and the Business plan, the “Different Domain per Language” add-on simply maps each language to whatever domain you assign. From the visitor’s perspective, it looks like separate localized websites, but behind the scenes it’s still a single WordPress installation managing everything.

The only thing that really matters is the technical setup. All the domains you want to use (like france.fr ) need to point to the same server where your WordPress site is hosted, and they should be properly added in your hosting account and secured with SSL. Once that’s in place, TranslatePress handles the language switching between domains.

This kind of setup is actually very solid from an SEO perspective too, since country-specific domains like .fr send strong localization signals.

So you’re good to go with france.fr — no need to stick to variations of your main domain.

Hi, can you confirm one last important question for me:

When using “Use a Different Domain per Language” and enabling “SEO Pack (Legacy)”, will the second language (france.fr)  still work with my current Yoast set-up??

    Thank you

Yes — your second language domain (france.fr ) will still work with your current Yoast SEO setup.

One important note though: the SEO Pack (Legacy) option should not be used anymore.
That option was introduced as a temporary protection measure when we rolled out improvements to how TranslatePress processes translated slugs. It was meant to help users avoid issues during that transition period, but it’s no longer recommended for new setups.

For your configuration, you should simply use the current SEO Pack functionality and leave the Legacy option disabled.
Your setup would still work as expected:

    • england.co.uk  → English
    • france.fr  → French

Both domains can run from the same WordPress installation, while TranslatePress handles the language/domain mapping and translated SEO elements, and Yoast continues managing its normal SEO features.

So in short: yes, your setup is compatible with Yoast

Note: Let’s stop the discussion about this here, a s WP.org prohibits topics about pro features of free prodcuts.
