Difficulties with multi column alignment

I have SRP Pro and I would like to create my recent posts with multiple colums (2 culumns, 3 rows) with vertical alignment. Thumbnail, Title, Date, Content of post (50 caracters).

Since I have never edited any CSS files I would be very happy with the above, but the final goal would be to allign the posts such way that if there is no text in it than it should have a gap identical to the 50 caracters so at the end the posts are right next to each other in the columns.
