    Kind regards.

I have the following dilemma: I have noticed that my images have lost saturation when uploading them to WordPress, they look more opaque, however I did not pay much attention to it.

The problem occurred when I uploaded a particular image of 3 MB, and I didn’t like the final warm, so I disabled the “none” compression, however, when I uploaded the image again it still had the same result.

My question is, when I activate the compression of this plugin, does it overwrite the default compression that WordPress does?

because I used a snippet so that the WordPress compression would be 100, but when uploading an image that would be externally optimized for 450 Kb, it ended up weighing 2 MB.

    Hello @yuliandesign,

The Speed Optimizer plugin do not overwrite the WordPress built-in compression but rather enhances it by applying additional compression on top of what WordPress already does. As such, when you disable the image compression via the plugin’s settings, the default WordPress compression remains active.

Since you have set the image quality to 100%, any newly uploaded images should not be optimized and their size should remain the same. This should not cause a 450KB image to be changed to 2MB upon upload which indicates that there may be other factors. However, without replicating this behaviour and reviewing your website and its configuration, we cannot say what exactly is modifying the newly uploaded images like this. If you would like us to review this further and in more detail, you are welcome to get in touch with our Support Team if you are a SiteGround client.

it by applying additional compression on top of what WordPress already does

Does that mean that the images are going through double compression? First the one that WordPress has by default and then the one applied by the plugin?

I will run several tests and if I determine that it is the siteground plugin then I will contact you.

    Hi @yuliandesign,

Yes, the compression provided by our plugin is additional to the native one. If you choose a compression level different than None, there will be double compression.
