    Hello! Excellent plugin!
How do I disable the “alternative text” function in featured image?
I would like this field to be empty ever.

    Hi @superbr,

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand your question. If you want the Alternative Text field to be empty, just leave it blank without adding any text.

Sorry, I didn’t explain it properly.

I use RSS plugins to import content from other partner sites. The problem is that this field is filled when I import the content. Sometimes it is filled with text that “breaks” the image, such as HTML elements, such as: <div>sample text</div>

Would it be possible to disable this?

    Thank you, @superbr.

So you just need to configure the RSS plugin not to write into the FIFU custom field, right? If that’s not possible, contact their support for assistance. This would be the correct solution in this case, rather than creating a new feature on the FIFU side.

So, that’s exactly what I thought. But the thing is, this information is useful in other parts of the site. But when it appears in the “alternative text” field in the FIFU, it causes problems with the image.

I tested it here, the image doesn’t appear… when I clear the “alternative text” field and save the post, everything goes back to normal. These errors occur when HTML fields appear in the FIFU field.

The HTML doesn’t “appear” there on its own. Your plugin is saving the value directly into the custom field in the database, so FIFU has no control over it. That’s why I suggested configuring the import plugin.

Anyway, to help you, I’ll try to reproduce the issue here and see what can be done to prevent tags from rendering in the alternative text.

Please provide an example of HTML that breaks the image when saved in the Alternative Text field.

Hi, thanks for helping me. Yes, of course…
I followed your advice and looked deeper into the other plugin’s documentation, found some things, but I don’t know if it will work, I’m still testing it. Here is an example of an image with problems: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oZc0jkk87pxGuwVPGCVKO7Zq5vMtcXp5/view
This image appears normally in the editor, but not in the post, it is “broken”, I even thought it could be the theme.

To make it work, just clear the field and everything goes back to normal.

Thank you, but I asked you to send me an example of HTML that I can use to reproduce the issue, not the URL.

I tried this HTML in the Alternative Text field, <div>sample text</div>, but it didn’t cause any issues.

    I appreciate your help.

I found some options: “Strip HTML Tags From Title”. It didn’t solve 100%, but it did reduce it.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

I contacted WPeMatico support about the issues I reported to you.

If you could please check: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/disable-alternative-text-2/

I have disabled all plugins and the problem persists, remembering that if I delete the alternative text the problem disappears.

I also tried some settings they suggested, but I was unsuccessful. Is it possible to disable this field via some code? Maybe insert the code in functions.php if possible.

    Thanks!

    Hello, @superbr,

The field can’t be disabled via code.

If you could provide an example of HTML that causes the issue, it would help me investigate further.

    Hello, thanks for the reply.

I recorded a video reproducing the problem, in this video is the HTML example. See if the video can help.

I’m sorry, I didn’t understand. Wouldn’t the HTML example be the one in the video?

    What would this example be?

Can you paste that here, please?
