Disable Breadcrumbs Structured Data

I have the breadcrumbs option under ‘Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs’ disabled but since February 12 (according to GSC) the site now includes breadcrumbs structured data.
I can see that this is being added via Yoast https://i.imgur.com/sLAkNil.png and that this wasn’t present in previous iterations of the code.
Is this intentional and if so how can I disable this?

Hi,
This is intentional behavior of our plugin. To output the breadcrumb schema even if the breadcrumbs are disabled. We understand this does not meet user expectations of what that disable switch is expected to do.
We have a request with the development team to improving that disable switch to remove the breadcrumb schema as well. We are not sure when a resolution for the request will happen, we can only say our developers are aware of this concern.

The only way to remove the schema is to use our filter to remove it. However, you will also need to take an extra step of removing the reference to the breadcrumb.
A user from the community made a report here that described the filter to use and our developer followed up with the right code to use to remove that reference: https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/16711. You will likely need to review the code snippets provided and depending on your site make modifications to them.
Unfortunately, there’s a difference between the support we can offer and the level of programming needed to change (core) features of our plugin. Since we don’t want to take the risk that we break your website by suggesting incorrect or incomplete code, we cannot advise you on how to make such changes. And even though we cannot be of any assistance, you’re completely free to change anything in the plugin to better suit your needs.
