  • The multiple image files are standard functionality in WordPress, and have been for a very long time, so that embedded images and gallery thumbnails aren’t too large. The responsive images functionality is merely a new use for these existing images. Disabling them (which I’m not even sure is possible) will only turn a disk space issue into a bandwidth one. Your site will use more bandwidth and load more slowly.

You can disable multiple images (small, medium, large) in Settings-> media setting 0,0 to all images as stated in this article:
    http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-prevent-wordpress-from-generating-image-sizes/

However, after setting those, still one image is being generated .. 768 Width, which is not small at all.

So, no, the image being generated is because the responsive image feature

^^ that is correct – that 768 wide image is still being created, and it’s obviously the responsive one. And that setting of 0 for width/height used to work, but not any more.

Anyone else have any other suggestions that actually work with WP 4.6?
