Displaying Posts by a Date Field

    I am putting together a list of events. I want the posts to be sorted and displayed by date.

    For example, the post headlines might read:

    John Black and the Smiths
    Thursday , May 7

    Band on the Run
    Saturday, May 9

    The Jane Doe Experience
    May, 16

    We want the posts to display in chronological order of the date of the appearance regardless of when the post is entered.

    Is there a plugin or a hack that can make this happen?
