They should work in any theme – unless you’re putting the code someplace strange.

just typed the code in where one might type body text. I suppose the text editor area. same place I “Add(ed) Media” (grey place holder)
Try using the TEXT editor (and don’t switch between editors – it messes up code ) – I just tested the theme on a test site and it works okay for me.
