Do not show a variable

Suppose I have some snippet:
Some text {var1}, {var2}, {var3} sample.

Where “var1-whatever” are author names, which vary and aren’t always of the same amount.

Can I do something so that if var3 is left empty (or with some special code in it), then {var3} wouldn’t show at all in the resulting snippet?
