Mikko, thanks for your input here as the developer of Relevanssi. If someone is looking for an autocomplete popup to hook into Relevanssi, is there an alternative that you suggest?
Unfortunately I’m not aware of a better alternative. I should probably try creating one myself at some point.
Mikko, please do create one and let us know. Autocomplete would be an amazing feature.
Relevanssi is great, but the lack of autocomplete in today’s web is an issue
If you don’t add autocomplete to your search plugin, “non budget for custom dev users” has to use whatever they can find
Perhaps the time spend navigating these forums and rate, could be better spended adding native autocomplete to your plugin
I’m sure you know how relevanssi works, in order to make the best autocomplete method based on relevanssi search results
Absolutely – lack of autocomplete is bad UX and Google is starting to include sites with good UX in higher search engine rankings.
I prefer live ajax search myself, in my opinion that’s better UX than autocomplete, and that service is provided well enough with SearchWP Live Ajax Search, which works well with Relevanssi. I would recommend that instead of this non-working autocomplete plugin.
Mikko, would it still work on a site with over 20,000 posts?
Likely, but it depends on the server configuration. If Relevanssi works without problems, Relevanssi and SearchWP Live Ajax Search works as well.
If the search gets too slow, replacing Relevanssi with the much faster Relevanssi Light will help.
What’s the best server configuration for this set up?
Thanks I will try a few combinations.
Anything that runs WP, really. You may run into performance problems in the weakest shared hosting setups, and those may also limit the size of the MySQL database in a way that stops you from using Relevanssi.
Wait you need to have three plugins installed for it to work? Searchwp, searchwp ajax live search, and relevanssi?
No, and you can’t, Relevanssi and SearchWP would collide in a way that would break the search for sure. SearchWP Ajax Live Search provides only the live search and requires a search plugin to do the actual searching. That search plugin can be either SearchWP or Relevanssi.
It works! Love it. And no noticeable lag, as I have a very good (and expensive) hosting setup.
Thanks!!
