Does anyone use GoDaddy shared hosting? Please respond.
I used the automatic GoDaddy install of WordPress, but when I enter my domain name, I get a HTTP 400 Bad Request error.

Hi, I have GoDaddy and I installed WordPress on Sunday morning. I kept getting the HTTP 400 error all day. When I tried it Monday morning, though, it worked, so I assumed that you just have to wait several hours after installing anything on GoDaddy.
Thank you for responding rymelis.
I will be patient, and give it some more time.
I use GoDaddy hosting, but I’ve never used the automatic install of WordPress. The one time I did try it, it didn’t work worth a damn, IMO, and used some very odd database settings that I did not like.
While I would not recommend GoDaddy hosting, I do use it and would say that if you use it, install WordPress yourself, don’t use the automated install system. Those things never work correctly in my experience, and you really gain a lot of valuable insight in doing a self-install. It’s helpful to know how the thing works.
Yeah, at this moment GoDaddy does have a problem with a new WordPress 2.3 installed via the Hosting Connection (was called Metropolis). Their advanced support team is working on a fix and that fix should be in place 24-72 hours.
Interestingly, if you have a previous install of WordPress, the upgrade (or patch as Godaddy calls it) to 2.3 works just fine.
Thanks to everyone for the feedback.
The HTTP 400 error is still occuring.
Interesting that GoDaddy didn’t mention that their advanced support team is aware that they need to make adjustments on their end. That may explain why the CSR I spoke with seemed uncomfortable responding to my inquiries.
I recently switched from Windows shared hosting to Linux shared hosting, and just learned that the FilleZilla FTP Client (windows) I had previously installed is not valid for my new Linux hosting, so I am researching gFTP, because it is free.
Regarding the problems with WordPress 2.3 installed via the Hosting Connection I received this message back from GoDaddy Support:
We have resolved the issue with your WordPress installation. It appears that the permissions had been altered which cause Apache to not be able to serve the pages. This required a global permissions reset, so please double check the files in your hosting account for the correct permissions.
Did a complete new installation of WordPress 2.3 via the Godaddy Hosting Connection and it installed and worked just fine.
@cnkna – don’t know why FileZilla on your local PC wouldn’t work. Just now completed a WordPress 2.3.1 (following directions from Installing WordPress) and I had no problems FileZilla (I’m using FileZilla 2.2.18).
MichaelH,
I completed automatic installs of WordPress on 4 other domains under the same shared hosting account, and everything looks great!
However, afterward, I did an automatic uninstall of WordPress on the initial domain name, followed by a new automatic install.
Now, a page with the following information appears:
“This Website is coming soon!”
and
“If you are the owner of this web site you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your web site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for FTP Upload Information.”
I will try to uninstall/install again.
P.S.
I deleted FileZilla FTP Client prior completing the 4 new automatic installs of WordPress, and DID NOT INSTALL any other FTP Client. GoDaddy has a File Manager feature, which is functioning as a FTP Client.
MichaelH,
Regarding my not being able to access my files through FileZilla FTP Client, I beleive it was because I was using the Windows version of Filezilla FTP Client, because my shared hosting account was originally set up for Windows.
The problem started to occur after I switched from Windows hosting to Linux hosting.
Performed automatic uninstall followed by install on original domain name again, no change. (I waited at least 20 minutes.)
I will uninstall, and re-install later, allowing several hours to pass.
“This website is coming soon” page still appears. I tried cleaning up the files in File Manager, and I performed another automatic install of WordPress. No change.
I explained to GoDaddy that 4 of 5 domains on the same shared hosting account are operating successfully, and they informed me that the dedicated IP address for my domain name is incorrect.
They suggested that I contact the domain registrar (1 & 1) to correct the issue. The domain registrar assisted me with the change, and I was told it may take 24 – 48 hours for the update to be completed.
I am skeptical about the instructions I received from the domain registrar, because I didn’t have to go through this process with the other 4 domain names with the successful WordPress installs.
Just to reiterate–using a Windows version of FileZilla should have no impact on uploading to either a Windows hosted account or a Linux hosted account.
Now maybe you had some specific setting in Filezilla that was causing the problem…
