I have some must-use plugins in my current site. Will site migrations using Duplicator (external site importing into my current site) affect any mu-plugins?

Let’s say I create a blank site with a must-use magic login plugin, then give admin access to a third party. Then they use Duplicator to import a new website to replace my current site. What happens to mu plugins then? Would I still be able to magic login into the new site after the migration?

    Thanks!

    Hello @michoscopic,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Allow me to clarify how Duplicator handles the extraction of an archive. When Duplicator extracts a backup file, it overwrites any existing directories on the target server with the corresponding directories from within the backup.

To illustrate, if your current website includes a directory such as mu-plugins, but this directory is not present in the backup archive, then the existing mu-plugins directory on your server will remain untouched and stay intact during the extraction process.

We hope this explanation is helpful.

    Best regards,

Thanks, so it does NOT do a clean wipe before extracting, correct? Just overwrite only, if an existing file is there. I assume this applies to database tables as well?

    Hi @michoscopic ,

Yes, Duplicator doesn’t clean the files before the extraction, it overwrites the existing.

About the database tables, it cleans the database before installing the backup. The option to overwrite the database is available only in the Pro version.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi @michoscopic ,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist further, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.

    Thanks!
