Duplicator is great, and it works really well. It´s so easy to use, both exporting and restoring is a breeze.

However, sometimes you need to share your WordPress database with external developers, or someone else outside your organization. To prevent sensitive or personal information to be shared, and to comply with the GDPR regulations, it would be great to be able to enable a GDPR checkbox, so that sensitive or personal information would be scrubbed from the database at export, so that it can be safely shared with external developers.

Alternatively, in stead of removing names, adresses, and email addresses, they could all be replaced with dummy content, for example email addresses with [email protected].

Does Duplicator support this now, or will it support GDPR compliant database export in the future? Are there alternative exporter/importer plugins which can export a GDPR compliant WordPress database?

  • Hey @wpvtr,

At the moment we are not GDPR compliant. The Pro does allow for archive encryption, so if you do share the archive file it will be fully encrypted.

    Hope that helps~

    Hi Cory,

Thanks for a fast answer, I really appreciate it. Would you accept a Pull Request, if someone wrote an optional feature which obfuscates user info on export? Or would it be possible to sponsor you, to add this feature?

    Hey @wpvtr,

We have considered looking into this, however, since there are tens of thousands of plugins we really have no control over all of them, and, properly obfuscating the data correctly and accurately could get really thorny. If you would like to submit a support ticket we could talk in more detail about it and I could offer any ideas you have to our development team.

Here is the link to our help system:

Just provide a link to it in the ticket.

    Thanks

Thanks for fast reponses @corylamleorg. I got away from the task, but am now revisiting. Currently, my organization doesn’t have the means to sponsor this feature …

I hope another organization, or individuals, might step u and sponsor this feature. I think eventually it will become a requirement. Have a great day!
