Hi @coholm,
Thank you for reaching out with your question.
Currently it is not possible to add this custom search parameter so that WPSI can track the searches. Though we’d like to add an integration with Toolset to our plugin.
We will be working on this feature next week and we’ll share a development version with you here, so you can test if it works for you. Would that be ok?
For the time being, you could test if enabling ‘Track Ajax searches’ does track the search bar entries.
Thanks again for the suggestion, we’ll be in touch!
Regards,
Leon
Hi @coholm,
I’ve created a version where you can add your own, custom search parameter. You can test it by downloading the git version here:
https://github.com/Mark-met-een-K/wp-search-insights/tree/custom-search-parameter
I’ll also add an integration so Toolset will be automatically detected and the custom parameter set, will add that next week.
When it’s been tested we’ll include it in the next release.

In the search term overview, the links need to be adjusted to the new search param. Currently it links to ?s=test&searchinsights

I got a few feature requests:
1. Show in the dashboard the number of times the term has been searched for
2. Add placeholders to filter. For example: “www.*” will filter out all searches that begin or contain www.
3. Make it possible to mark (and copy) search terms in the dashboard with the mouse

@coholm Good to hear that it works as expected!
We’ll change the link on the All searches overview. Thanks for pointing that out.
1. We do have that feature on our wish list. Currently, you can see the 5 most popular searches on the dashboard
2. Added that to our backlog as well. Thank you!
3. Could you elaborate on this request? Why would you want to copy searches?

Thank you.
Regarding feature request #3:
I just want to be able to highlight the search term and be able to copy it. In my case I need to copy SKUs and paste them to our ERP System and lookup what the name of that article number is.
IMO feature #1 is the most urgent one.
@coholm Thanks for the explanation, I will discuss this with our team.
#1 is high on our wishlist as well :-).

I noticed that I got “search spam”. Someone is searching for chinese websites on my website. here is the screenshot: https://i.ibb.co/yB7tZQv/2020-07-01-14-00-27-WP-Search-Insights-HOLMCO-Word-Press.png
Is there a way you can add a coloumn to show the IP adress next to each search term so I can block access from the ip entirely?
Hi @coholm As the developers of the Complianz Privacy plugin, we designed WP Search Insights so that it does not process personal data. Therefore unfortunately you can’t find IP addresses in WPSI.
We are however working on Spam filters, including an Akismet integration. Keep an eye out for our updates 🙂
Kind regards,
Leon
@coholm, thanks for your input, I’ve updated this git branch to change the links in the overview according to the used parameter. When Toolset is detected, it will automatically set this custom search parameter.
