Does not work without shortcodes/ with

I don’t want to use shortcodes since I feel like this is an unnatural way of writing in the editor. Why though when we have the regular <pre> formatting option. I found the option in the settings to load all scripts to use <pre> tags instead of shortcodes.

This unfortunately does not work. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
