• I am using WordPress 2.9.2.
I participate in a few online forums that include my blog feed under my poster info. Whenever I post in the forums, it includes a link to my latest blog post. It worked fine when I had left the Permalink setting to the default setting. However, I recently changed the Permalink setting to “Day and name”.

Now the “Latest Blog Post” feed in my forum postings does not work.

Does changing the Permalink setting in WordPress affect a blog’s (RSS) feed?

  • Only in terms of the post links that are generated in the feed.

    Thanks, esmi.

I just logged in to my account and re-read the “Permalink Settings” page.

The second section is an “Optional” section:

“If you like, you may enter custom structures for your category and tag URLs here. . . .”

Then below the “Save Changes” button is the statement,

“If your .htaccess file were writable, we could do this automatically, but it isn’t . . .”

Previously, I had assumed this last statement applied only to “Optional” settings changes that might be made. However, now I am wondering if it applies to all settings changes (i.e. – my change from Default to Day-and-Name).

Was I, indeed, required to edit the mod_rewrite rules in my .htaccess file for those changes to take effect?.

    David

Yes. You either need to edit the .htaccess file by hand or make it writeable so that WP can make the necessary changes.
