Does Plugin Support PayPal Standard Subscriptions?

    Hi Payments Plugins for PayPal Team,

    I hope you are well. Our company wants to move to your PayPal plugin from WooCommerce’s PayPal plugin. We have two types of PayPal subscriptions: 1) subscriptions controlled by WooCommerce using Reference Transactions, and 2) subscriptions controlled by PayPal (created under PayPal Standard). The subscriptions controlled by PayPal have a PayPal ID (e.g. I-4BZL9W3BH2JT). They are shown in PayPal’s “Subscriptions” screen, and renewal payments are initiated by PayPal.

    Will Payment Plugins for PayPal handle both types of PayPal subscriptions? If so, we’d love to move to your plugin.

    Our PayPal plugin is designed to process subscription payments that use reference transactions. Specifically, our plugin can automatically process renewal payments for subscriptions created via the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin. However, we don’t have specific logic in place to handle a subscription payment that’s managed by PayPal. Do you receive notifications of a successful payment via a webhook, IPN, or something else?

    Are you still using PayPal Standard or does the WooCommerce PayPal Payments plugin handle subscription’s that exist within PayPal?

    Hi Payment Plugins,

    My apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for clarifying. We use WooCommerce PayPal Payments, and it does handle subscriptions that exist within PayPal. There are webhooks available that allow us to be notified of many events, including when a payment is completed (although we don’t currently use any of these webhooks).

    To clarify, would our existing PayPal Reference Transaction subscriptions renewals successfully process even though they were not created using your plugin? And do you think there is a way we could continue to handle renewals orders for subscriptions in PayPal using your plugin? We’d love to switch to your plugin, but we’d lose too many subscribers if we required all our legacy subscribers in PayPal to re-subscribe.

    Yes, this plugin is designed to process renewal payments for subscriptions created using WooCommerce PayPal Payments and PayPal Standard.

    And do you think there is a way we could continue to handle renewals orders for subscriptions in PayPal using your plugin?

    I’ll need to pass this on to the development team and have them confirm. If it’s not currently possible, we can add it in the next release of the plugin.

    You can create a support ticket here so you can assist with testing that new feature should it be needed.
