Does the default theme ever get updated?

    I’ve created a few WordPress websites using the default theme
    I’ve changed and tweaked in small places – nothing major

    But I wondering: does the default theme ever change??

    Should I create a duplicate of the default theme, rename + edit style sheet to create a new theme – so I’d be safe if the default theme was ever updated for any reason?

    You should definitely create a new theme, based on the default.

    I thought the default theme got replaced each time WP was upgraded?

    Also, WP 3.0 coming soon, will have a different default theme
