I have seen many plugins out there that manage workflow editing/publishing content in WordPress – but they all fail to do one thing (that is very important to me).

I want to place edit flow on existing published content (pages/posts) so that when and editor makes changes to the page (i.e. in a status named ‘pending review) that the page/post content is still accessible to front end users but showing the older published version of the page (not an error 404 page as if the page was in draft mode).

Then when the changes are finally approved, the status goes back to published and then changes are merged and live on page/post.

This may involve making a clone of the page/post in the dashboard which will be a draft of the updated pages whilst the live facing page/post is still showing old content. New changes in cloned draft are then merged when changes are approved and published.

    Hi rarcher30,

Oasis Workflow Pro takes care of that issue. We allow the user to make revision of published posts. The revision flows through the workflow and when the revision is approved, we copy the contents (including taxonomies, custom post fields etc) to the original post.

So, your original published post never goes offline, while you work on it’s revision.

You can read and watch a video about this feature here – https://www.oasisworkflow.com/documentation/working-with-workflows/revise-published-content

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! That sounds great. I also want to have emails sent from an ‘section editor’ role to an ‘approver’ role when they edit content (and prevent the editor from being able to make the revision go live, it needs the ‘approver’ to do that. I was looking into PublishPress/Edit Flow for this but they just do not support an editing workflow on existing pages. So I assume I would need to purchase the pro version to get this functionality? I can see that it also supports multisite. So how would it work if I have many subsites within a multisite? Would I need to purchase a license for each one?

Yes, emails are sent out for every sign off/assignment. You have a choice to personalize those emails per workflow step. You should be able to try this with the free version as well.

In regards to multi-site, each site is considered as one license. So, if you are planning to use this plugin on multiple subsites, you have to go with either Business or Business Plus license.

The workflows/workflow roles, assignments etc within a subsite are for a given subsite. This allows you to gradually migrate to editorial workflows site by site. You can also choose not to have workflows activated on certain subsites (sites for which workflows may be an overkill).

    Hope this helps.
