    Hi,

I’ve checked out the extension for multisite, but it has not been updated in over 5 years. Does this plugin still work with multisite? If so, how well does it work?

    Thanks!

    Yes it does.

    No changes have been needed.

    Hello @ryanhuc,

Yes the plugin still works. http://www.geeknewscentral.com is using it. We will update the readme.txt with the version info in the coming week. The features described on the page are all that is included. If you plan on managing multiple programs/podcasts using Blubrry stats and/or hosting, or/and control podcast features from multi-site network then the features you seek are there.

What network level functionality are you looking for?

    Thanks,
    Angelo

I work at a small university where some of our undergraduate courses have been experimenting with podcasting. I want to host these on websites devoted to each of the classes that are creating these podcasts year after year, so that they all have their own devoted site with just their content. The students will be the ones creating the websites themselves, as well as all the podcast content, and I was hoping to have them do some “branding” for these different sites to give them a more authentic feel. Having a nice player that can be used independently on each site is the first major step.

Stats are not as important, though a nice bonus to show the professors of these courses how many plays might be occurring throughout the life of the assignment. I was hoping the students could just create mp3s that we would host locally, as cloud services would be a bit messy due to the nature of the assignments. These sites are not meant to have a long lifespan, unless the same prof continually offers this specific assignment in their course long-term.

    Hello @ryanhuc,

We offer free podcast statistics and a paid version. Both report the same download metric except the paid version has additional reporting/exporting options, and are updated more frequently. Statistics are tied to our services, students would have to create a Blubrry account to obtain them, nothing different than creating a Google account to get free Google analytics.

Media files can be hosted locally but keep in mind that if one podcast starts to attract an audience, your web server infrastructure which is setup to host WordPress pages, will be inundated with larger file download requests, your bandwidth and available resource needs to this farm of servers will grow exponentially if one of these shows were to gain an audience. If bandwidth is not the issue, then usually the concurrent request limits usually is.

With that said you are more than welcome to host the files on the same server and as an education tool this is a good way to start. Just keep in mind the challenge I mentioned in the last paragraph, a multi-site setup with say 50 podcast websites will scale under normal circumstances, but if one of those podcasts has an audience 1,000+ listeners, then you will start to notice issues on the days that podcast releases a new episode (this is when the download spikes typically happen). Just do the math on what bandwidth and request limits you have and you should be safe.

If you do not mind, please contact me at cio [at] rawvoice dot com, we may have something that may be better suited for what you are trying to do. If your school already has an account with a service such as Amazon our Azure, there may be even more options available for you we can discuss.

    Thanks,
    Angelo
