    Hello,
When UpdraftPlus is activated, the display of the site’s available memory is correct (Memory: 458.39 of 6144 MB (7%) | WP LIMIT: 6 GB).
When this plugin is deactivated, the memory display changes radically (Memory: 240.39 of -1 MB (-24039%) | WP LIMIT: 6 GB).
Is this just a display bug? Or is there a real memory problem?
With UpdraftPlus disabled, some plugins display the warning ‘not enough memory’. But the site seems to work fine.
On the live site, where UpdraftPlus was also used, I see the same incorrect memory display. However, UpdraftPlus has now been removed from that site.
How can I resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help-).
    Kris

  • Hi there,

It does appear there may be an error with how server memory in use is calculated.
A quick Google search showed there are cases where this occurs for varied reasons.

I think you’ll have to ask your hosting service to take a look at this problem for you.
If you’ve removed the plugin and the error persists then the plugin isn’t the cause.

It’s difficult for us here as we’re limited as to what we can do for free plugin support.
Your analysis does indicate the problem is likely originating from a different source.

    Best regards,

    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that there is a strange correlation between UpdraftPlus and another plugin – FileTrip: when both are enabled, the memory display is correct. But FileTrip alone (without UpdraftPlus, disabled or removed) causes the incorrect display.
UpdraftPlus was used to transfer the live site from the staging site, and now, for some reason I find hard to understand, its presence is essential-).

    Hi there,

Thank you, I’m happy to help.

That’s definitely a new one for me, I hadn’t heard of FileTrip up until you mentioned it…
Plugin conflicts do happen occasionally but your scenario is very unusual in its behavior.

I’m guessing when FileTrip is removed everything goes back to normal with the memory?
It’s great to hear our plugin is an essential, but better when it’s because of our features 🙂

FileTrip allows musicians to upload their productions to our site (Music Bay is a marketplace).

Yes, when FileTrip is disabled, the memory is displayed correctly. But as soon as it’s activated, it behaves like a Tiger that scares the little memory that starts displaying anything. And that’s where the Tamer (UpdraftPlus) comes in! Its simple presence turns the Tiger back into a little cat and the memory is no longer frightened and is happy.

    Vas comprendre, Charles…

    Hi there,

Thanks for the background, I checked out FileTrip. It may be worth letting their support now.
I’m not sure the FileTrip creator intended to make a memory tiger, they may like the feedback.
Perhaps we need to update our plugin feature list? ‘UpdraftPlus also tames memory tigers’ 🙂

Support doesn’t answer. The last time they answered was… 3 years ago (right!). But updates are still offered. The AI, perhaps?
However, before our technician used UpdraftPlus, FileTrip enabled had no bad influence on the memory display, the problems started when they met…

    Hi @krismusicbis,

Hmm… not the best response time for support. If folks are paying it should be better.
With no active support it’s hard to see how the memory issue will ever be addressed.

Normally once an issue’s flagged a developer will analyze and release a new version.
The support on the plugin homepage seems to be minimalist to say the very least…

I totally agree, it’s pathetic. Personally, I’ve even paid extra to get specific support (other than a simple reply in the comments section). And no reply either.
    Luckily there’s the Tamer! 🥂

    Hi there,

Frankly, I think you should look for alternatives. Good support is essential, paid or unpaid…
If the support isn’t great it could also be implied the product may have some shortcomings.

It’s great our plugin helps to keep the tiger tame, but it could mean there are other issues.
If there’s unidentified interaction between the two plugins it could create further problems.

I know; if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. I’m just highlighting a potential for more complications.

    Best regards,

    Hi Nick,
You’re right – and thanks for pointing out possible future incompatibility issues – I’m actually looking for an alternative to this plugin. For now, it’s doing its job, so much the better.
Thanks for this exchange and long live UpdraftPlus!
    Kristof

    Hi Kristof,

Thank you, there’s another good expression ‘prevention is better than cure’.
At least you know the issue exists so you know where to look for problems.

Thank you very much, I’ve enjoyed the chat. We appreciate your positivity!

    Best regards,

    Nick
