Does WordPress generate “?destination=node/xyz” URL’s?

    Hello,

    I am not confident this is a basic WordPress issue, but I cannot find the source so I am asking around.

    I run an e-commerce site using WooCom if it matters. A few months ago in March 2025 google search console suddenly flagged lots of new issues under my indexing. I coincidentally also started to notice a drop in my sales. I am wondering if anyone has had similar issues with Google Search Console and their wordpress/woocom website and knows anything about it? So far I can’t find the source of the odd urls.

    While most of the offending URL’s are from WooCommerce, some of them are from basic pages such as About Us or Contact which is just a regular WordPress Page type. So this makes me wonder where its coming from.

    Most of the culprits are something like mysitehere/content?destination=node/numberhere

    Does anyone know where or why this “?destination=node/numberhere” is being generated? Can I disable it or stop google from finding it? There also other ones, such as “?attribute_xyz” and so on.

    This is neither from WordPress nor WooCommerce. A quick search led me to believe that this may be related to single sign-on systems. Are you using a plugin for this? If so, that could be the cause.

    If not, you would need to exclude the plugins you use by examining them more closely.     The plugins look inconspicuous to me. There’s nothing I can think of that would explain this.

    I also took a look at your site. I don’t see anywhere there that these URLs are being generated either.

    I therefore suspect that they were either generated by a plugin that was used in the past and is no longer there, or that someone is spamming URLs. In the latter case, I would recommend contacting the Google Search Community. They are most likely to know where such URLs could come from: https://support.google.com/webmasters/community
