• On several sites today I noticed I am now unable to add new plugins unless I disable my VPN (Surfshark). The VPN is using a US server. Is WP blocking VPN IPs or is there something else going on?

“An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with ww.wp.xz.cn or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

When I disable the VPN, the error goes away.

Check if any of your plugins, etc., is blocking VPN.

To rule out a plugin or theme conflict, please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.
