User migration shouldn’t be used in the automatic setup process of the plugin.

    – If people are interested in migrating their already created users on WordPress, they should just read docs on how to turn it on
    – User migration presents so much other bugs & issues for the common user on WordPress (where it could not be turned off in many situations no matter what documentation I’ve looked at in Auth0)

  • Thank you for the feedback here. We’re planning on improving the whole setup process and I think it would make sense to make that an option to turn off.

I’m sorry, however the issue has not been solved. User migration is very complicated and ruins the entire smooth process for getting Auth0 started.

Here are a couple of issues I’ve observed with user migration.

First, the admin account will not be properly merged (if I choose to manually set it up) as it does properly merge when I choose automatic setup. Then, administrators will have to rely on using the wp-login.php?wle URL to sign into their admin account (which currently does not work: see this post).

I choose not to use automatic setup for my sites just because of this feature. The user migration feature cannot be turned off after it is activated.

Secondly, say a regular person just downloaded Auth0. Then, they don’t know why SSO doesn’t process correctly with other sites and have to use extra documentation just to remove it (if it even is easily removable).

Lastly, to remind you, people that want to migrate their existing users (which would be rarely limited to those with old WordPress sites & users) should simply activate it and configure it for themselves only.

There is no sense in turning on user migration for regular users in an automatic setup process and needs to be removed.

Hi @willburholt … I marked this as “Resolved” because it’s functionality request. We’re currently rethinking the setup process and one of the specific items is setting up user migration initially (as in: giving administrators the choice). There’s not a lot I can to do alleviate your specific issues with user migration right this second so I marked this resolved, as in “got your feedback and will consider it in a future release.”

The decision to configure user migration as a default was based on the fact that it is difficult to setup in the first place if desired and cannot be activated once there have been users added. I agree that this should be an option during setup but I don’t agree that it’s show-stopping issue as I don’t see any other issues or support posts about it. I agree that people wanting to migrate do have existing users, of course, but I don’t see that as an edge case.

Again, thank you for the feedback and it’s on the docket. In fact, I made an issue to discuss this:
