Here’s why I hate WP5.
1 The blocks.
They force paragraphs far apart from each other, the equivalent of triple spacing or more.
It makes your text look childish.
And if your posts are long and text-heavy, as mine are, the blocks repel viewers. They make every post into a long, long scroll.
2 Insert images
I used to insert images by putting the cursor at the start of the paragraph in which I want the image to appear. I’d pick an image from the library, and indicate whether I want it to go to the right of the post, to the left, or to be centred.
WP5 doesn’t seem to offer this capacity at all. It is extremely annoying.
3. Fonts
I used to be about to say I wanted my text to be 12 point, and to be white, because the background of my site is black.
In WP5 it’s a pain in the arse to get it down to 12-point, and when I request white text against a black background, I get blocks of black around the white text, quite visible, against the background black.
I’m sure there are many other things wrong with WP5. It’s a clumsy, non-intuitive, functionality-hidden nightmare to use.
But I’m a writer. Those are the simple things I want to be able to do. I don’t want to become a sophisticated user. I just want it to to what I want, very simply, as WP4.98 did, for example.
But if there’s a way of not sing the blocks, and a way of having the images to the left or right of the text, then I’d persevere with it.
Can anyone help?
