Downloading

Hi, if I download a file from our homesite that I´ve set up and then take that file and try to play it then Windows media player say “error” (or it pops up a message on the screen that it´s unaviable to play that file.. Why? and if I go tp my computer and to “downloaded file” and search the file and right click and press “propesrties” there I can see that it says 0 bytes… why?? If I play the file on my homeside then I can listen to it but why cant´t I download the file first and then listen to it later on??
