The plugin dropped “standalone support” and now forces you to use their platform and create an account there (where?).

As their migration instructions say: “The WordPress Legacy plugin is more like a limited self hosted version, while the standalone version is fully hosted and managed by our team. When you migrate, nothing will change for the users of our WordPress legacy plugin as your buttons will transfer and show up as usual.

This is a limitation for the plugin making it worthless for me, since I do not wish to have it hosted elsewhere (security, reliability, multiple POF). It also is a risk for EU-users since we don’t know where it’s hosted and where user details are send.

    Hello,

We’re sad to hear that! We work hard to keep our customers happy and it hurts to receive a 1-star review. We’re a small team of four people and love supporting the awesome WordPress community.

We created a standalone (cloud-based) system almost four years ago to support all platforms, including WordPress, Shopify, etc. without the need to duplicate the functionality for each platform – the inefficiencies would compound for every new feature we add to our platform. Since we made the change, everything has been running great, and we’ve expanded our feature set to offer popups, live chat, chatbots, and so much more.

In short, Buttonizer data is stored securely in the Netherlands (see GDPR page here) and is owned by Formilla LLC which is based in the US. Formilla offers live chat, chatbots, popups, and more features that are tightly integrated with Buttonizer, so we can offer much more value to our users. The same team of four manages both products!

We don’t sell your data or use it for any other purposes besides account management or announcements. You can see it has been almost four years with no issues from our customers 🙂

    Cheers,
    Tony

Thanks for your response. Formilla LLC = USA based. That’s an issue for sure, especially these days and makes the plugin unsuitable for use in the EU because of the CLOUD Act.

Do you mind clarifying why you think it’s unsuitable for use in the EU? I believe even WordPress is a US-based company, so it becomes quite complicated if all US companies are not suitable for EU users.

Oh I see you modified your reply to clarify it’s due to the CLOUD act. The current political environment definitely makes it more challenging for us to operate unfortunately. Understood. I hope things calm down eventually and we get back to being friends haha. We love the EU.
