• Need help,

As of yesterday, the widgets for my blogroll, meta, comments, etc decided to drop down to way below the text. here.

They should be on the right as they still are on the other pages, eg: here.

Has anyone a solution to get this corrected? I am not a tech guy so please be kind.

    Thanks
    David

  • It’s almost certainly a problem within one of your recent posts that is creating this effect. Unfortunately, you have so many validation errors that it’s hard to tell which error is the most likely culprit. so I can only offer some suggestions:

    1. Try and validate your site. Errors such as “document type does not allow…” or “end tag for […] omitted” are all likely to cause the kinds of problems you’re experiencing.

    2. Don’t paste content from Word directly into your blog. Either use the “Paste from “Word” option in the Visual Editor or save your a copy of your Word document in plain .txt before copying its content. Text copied directly from Word contains a great deal of ‘hidden’ formatting information. At best, this makes your posts far larger than they actually need to be. At worst, it can even stop your posts from being displayed at all!

    Greetings ESMI,

I deleted the post that I was working on when it happened. Nothing changed.

I do cut and paste from Word because its the only way that I know to retain the footnotes from the original essay. Is there another way to do that? I would love to abandon word altogether. NAnd I delete all that junk at the top of the paste.

So I dont know what to do?

If you use the “Paste from Word” button in the Visual Editor, you should avoid many of the problems.

Or Use File/Save As in Word and in the “Save as type” dropdown, select one of the *.txt formats. Close the Word document, open up your new *.txt document, copy the text and paste into WordPress.

With regard to your current problems, I think it will be one of the recently published posts that is causing the widgets to drop down. Try working backwards through your posts – resetting their status to “Draft” and checking the site after each change. Eventually, the widgets will self-correct and you’ll know that the problem is within the last post that you removed.

    G’day Esmi,

I have removed the last three posts including the one I was working on when the widgets dropped, and converted 4 others way prior to this gliche to draft mode. No change.

I am still at a loss.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks,
    David
