Dumb question from non-programmer

I set up a wordpress blog on my page, and I kinda want to see under the hood a little bit.

Where on my server…in what file…is the actual blog content stored?

I ftp’d every single file down to my computer and did a text search of every file to find a specific string, and I cannot find any of the text that I entered in a blog post. So where is the post contents stored? Is it scrambled or something?
