I know WordPress has it’s own system about preventing duplicate comments. But we are having problems on our site, some comments is being posted twice. Not sure what is the reason, maybe the writers clicking the “Post Comment” too fast or something else. Any idea about this and how to fix this?

  • Hi @vtechbox, sometimes these issues are related to/caused by a theme/plugin on your WordPress, to make sure

    1. Please try to switch to the default WordPress theme, like Twenty Twenty Three
    2. Temporarily disable the plugin; you can disable it one by one to make sure

If it’s still the same, you can share the other details such as WordPress version, the theme that you’re using and also the screenshot of the issues

    Thank you!

I still think it’s when the Post Comment button is clicked multiple times too fast, because I tested it and it only happens when I do that.

Is there a way to disable the Post Comment button when the user clicked it once?

hm… I’m not entirely sure it may need to add custom JavaScript for that. If that’s the case, maybe you can use an alternative comment like using Disqus / WP Disqus or other comment options instead of using the default WordPress comment, as normally custom comments like Disqus, Jetpack have validations? You can try that

Or,,, adding CAPTCHA may also help. Have you tried adding CAPTCHA to your website?

Akismet, if installed, should catch the duplicate comments and mark them as spam.
