Duplicate email subscriptions

Ok, so the plugin so far has been working fine, but, I am having issues with duplicate subscriptions. I assume that, when a user enters an email that’s already on the subscription list, it should popup an error, but for some reason, it is not working like that. If I enter my email twice, it will be added 2 times on the list. Is there a way to fix this?
Also, a bit unrelated to the topic, but, is there a possibility to add captcha? Not really too important, but would be nice to know.
