Our client imports an ICS file to populate the Events. Sometimes some of the Events appear to be getting duplicated. (have a look at Principal’s Tour on the 9th October)

There are also some Events that don’t seem to be getting removed when the new ICS file says they should be. I think that may be the cause of the duplicates; it’s possible the Event is being updated in their calendar before being imported to WordPress, and the Events plugin is seeing it as a separate event and creating a new one, while not deleting the old one.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hey @mattmargin

    Thank you for reaching out.
You are right, by default Event Aggregator does not delete events, it just updates them.

Based on the situation you are describing, it sounds like the updates of the calendar are generating new UIDs (unique ids) which is why the import service sees it as a new event.

You might want to take a look at the following extension: https://theeventscalendar.com/extensions/ea-additional-options/

Please note that all extensions are not officially supported, but can be super helpful.

I would recommend taking a look at the section that says “Purge Events”.
This process can be memory intensive, so use with care 🙂

Let us know if that helps,

Hi Geoff, I tried the Additional Options plugin, but unfortunately it doesn’t appear to have done anything. When the plugin imports the events, it doesn’t touch any of the events that should be removed.

I have the “Delete upcoming events before running the next import” option selected, but the caveat says “Limit of 250 events per pass”. If my calendar is importing more than that, what happens? (It’s currently importing just over 300)
