Having random duplicate orders. Out of 10 it might happen once so no way to do test order to try and duplicate the problem. When customer is checking out the get the error message: Bad Gateway but the payment went through. They think it didn’t so they place order again. I use the plugin Checkout WC but they don’t think it’s their issue they think it’s Woo? Any ideas?

  • Hi @roxwhitt,

Thank you for the detailed explanation. If your customers are facing a bad gateway error during checkout, it’s likely an issue with your server or the payment processing gateway server, rather than WooCommerce itself.

Could you please let me know which payment plugin you’re using to connect to your payment gateway and which payment processing gateway is connected?

This could also explain the duplicate orders if there is an issue with the webhook connecting your site to the payment processing platform.

In your response, please also include screenshots of the two duplicate orders and their order notes.

Thanks for the response. There’s nothing unusual in the order notes. I use Stripe as my payment processor. I’ve chatted with them and they say everything is correctly set up with them. I deactivated the Checkout WC plugin yesterday and have had no more problems. The issue started last thursday after I updated that plugin so I am pretty confident it’s the plugin.

    Hi there!

    Thanks for the update!

It sounds like you’ve done a thorough check and confirmed that everything is set up correctly with Stripe, and that the issue started after updating the Checkout WC plugin.

Since the issue seems to be resolved after deactivating the plugin, it does seem likely that the plugin is the cause of the problem. As WooCommerce support, we primarily assist with core functionality, so I recommend reaching out to the plugin’s support team for more detailed troubleshooting or to report the issue. They should be able to investigate any compatibility issues or bugs that might have been introduced in the latest update.

In the meantime, if you experience any further issues related to WooCommerce itself or need guidance on settings, feel free to reach out — I’m happy to help!
