I use Duplicator a lot to clone and backup client sites. One thing we do is duplicate a site to bring it into development on a different domain.

Recently, I am noticing that when restoring a site, the actual values in Settings -> General are being set to http and not https:

    WordPress Address (URL)
    Site Address (URL)

    • I always make sure to run the installer.php program on the https url
    • During the install, all the screens say the new site will be on https
    • The link to login to the admin at the end is https

The problem are the settings above in Settings -> General. They are always set to http only for both the WordPress and Site address.

I have done this multiple times and those values are always set to http and I have to manually update the database to switch the site over to https.

I don’t think this is an issue with Duplicator, but with some other plugin I have installed. During some testing this morning I monitored the install process and when I first login to a site after it was duplicated, sometimes the login screen logs in and then puts me back to login again. It’s during this time that the data replacement happens and the site url changes to http.

I thought it was the plugin Speed Optimizer by Siteground: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/sg-cachepress/ – but after testing with a clean install with only that plugin, I’m not able to reproduce. So it might be a combo of that plugin with others, because in my duplicator, if I disabled that Siteground plugin during the setup – then the replacement doesn’t happen. But it does if the plugin gets re-enabled.
