I’m afraid that I’m struggling a bit with Dynamic Hyperlinks. I’m building a Data App for historical figures, with four child tables. One of the children is a Source table with lists of documents that contain the source data about each person I’m documenting. I have those documents in a subfolder of Uploads on the site: mostly PDFs, some Excel files. I want to include a Dynamic Hyperlink in the Source child template to open the document when clicked.

    Here’s what I’ve done:

    • In Data Explorer, I’ve added the link in the Dynamic Hyperlinks tab in the Table Settings. All checkboxes are checked: List? Form? and Window? That is working beautifully when I view the data in Data Explorer, and I get the documents I expect.
    • In my Source project template (one of the child tables), I’ve checked both the Hyperlinks Parent and Hyperlinks Child checkboxes. I’m not clear on what those do, but the links don’t appear whether those are checked or not. I tried to check these in the parent template, but the checkboxes aren’t there.

I looked in the List Table tab of my Source template, and the hyperlink isn’t listed there. Should it be?

By my reading of the docs, that’s what I have to do. But the links don’t appear in my app, even though they appear in Data Explorer. What am I missing, or doing wrong?

    Thanks!

    Hi @donkiely,

Sorry to hear you’re seeing issues with Dynamic Hyperlinks on your data project.

Can you try checking just the List? option for your hyperlink?

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look. Kindly send us a message via Contact | WP Data Access with more details.

We’ll wait for your email. 😊

Thanks, Kim. But unchecking those other checkboxes didn’t make a difference. In thinking about this more, it is probably because I have to use a lookup to get the hyperlink from a related table, not directly from the table I’m viewing. I can select the right field in the template Lookup list, but the hyperlink isn’t appearing.

I’ve implemented a workaround though: I’m using a Virtual Generated column in the table to build the URL. That’s working, although isn’t optimal.

I guess I’ll mark this as resolved. Unless you want to pursue it further, Kim.
