  • That’s a good one. You can’t really white list a dynamic ip as far as I know. Have you thought about using a dynamic dns solution like DYNDNS (caveat: I/We are not affiliated with this company in any way and I am using it merely for example purposes)? That might help. I’ll be sure and double check with Mark but I think the answer will be the same.

If you are using this for security purposes, have you thought about using our two factor authentication instead? It texts your cell phone when you try to login forcing you to use a code with your password. Really easy to implement (when I tested it).

    Hi Tim,
Yes I am using it for security purposes. I checked DYNDNS, but they don’t have free plans anymore.
    This article suggests Duckdns. http://lifehacker.com/the-best-free-alternatives-to-dyndns-1561556205
They offer up till 4 domains free.
I have no clue how to set this up, but I can ask my hosting provider. I understand also that some hosting providers offer Dynamic DNS. Maybe I am lucky. I will ask them.
The other solution you offer, the 2 factor authentication, it doesn’t seem to be a practical solution. I work on my blogs a lot and if I have to do that every time I login, it is too much of a hassle.
I will inquire about the Dynamic DNS.

    Cool.

Let me know how it works out. I’m sure other people would want to know. On further thought, I think I might be getting it backwards since the IP that dyndns would be more for things outside looking in (like remote desktop) vs your ip going out, but I could be mistaken about that. I know my internet provider offers static ip addresses. You’d need to ask yours to check on that though.

    Hi Tim,
I have it solved. My hosting provider didn’t have a dynamic dns and my isp neither. But when I entered my Dlink router I read that they offer a free dynamic dns. So I created a dlink account and enabled that in my dlink router.
All is working well, so I think it is solved now.

That’s great Johanna! Glad you worked it out. I’m going to document this as a possible solution and add it to my docs.

    Thanks!
