Events are sorted chronologically…
If you’re seeing old events at the top then that’s expected behaviour. If you’d rather say the next event at the top, then you can opt to hide past events in the settings.
Regarding templates, there’s a table here that should help: http://docs.wp-event-organiser.com/theme-integration/overview/

Thanks for the quick answer. I don´t want do opt out the old events.
Is it possible to invert the events by date?
I´ve read the table for the templates. But the archive-event.php seems not to be the right template for the list created in the menu from the options.
It’s possible, but then you end up with the future-most event first. E.g. if I have an event next week and one in 20 years time, the one in 20 years time will be first. That would be confusing to me :).
But anyway, this thread shows you how.
list created in the menu from the options
I think I may have misunderstood you. I had thought you were referring to the list of events. If instead you mean your site’s menu where you can an “Events” link, then you can change the order in Appearance > Menus – unless you don’t have any menus are instead using the page list “fallback”. In that instance, you have no control over where “Events” appears (which will typically be at the bottom).
