• This is something that’s been bothering me some time.
This used to work fine. You add a site, upload the theme, enable the theme for that site.

But “Enable” doesn’t do anything, doesn’t error. nothing. the only way I can get it to work (sortof) is to network-enable the theme, which is not really how I want to do it..

How did this happen, what could be the solution? anyone ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion or pointer..

  • “enable the theme for that site” should work. Or there is indeed something amiss. I just tried with my install and it works as expected (up to date Multisite WP4.1.1).

    I’ll offer the following.

For example if you go through the NetworkAdmin->Sites and edit, say site 223 …

    /wp-admin/network/site-themes.php?id=223

You see a list of only those themes are are not enabled network wide. Enable one. It should refresh and show the theme as enabled. But you are quite right, nothing much happens on blog 223 because …

Now you have only added the theme to the list of themes available on the site 223 Appearance->Themes page. You’ll still need to stop there and turn it on so it replaces the current theme with the new one in the way you normally switch themes on a subsite.

Could that be all? Otherwise a) basic trouble shooting existing install until you see functions restored – disable plugins etc etc… b) set up a fresh vanilla network install in another domain on your server to test themes/plugins/addons before transferring to live site.
