Is it a bit strange that the links weren’t changed. I suggest you to check the IP addresses of the Broken Link Checker service, here:
https://wpmudev.com/docs/getting-started/wpmu-dev-ip-addresses/
And add these IPs into any Firewall your site uses, either being from a plugin, the server or your DNS manager. This will ensure that the Broken Link Checker service doesn’t get blocked from performing actions to your site.
Besides that, make sure to clear the cache and the permalink structure of your site. The cache depends of your site, many plugins has options to clear the cache on demand, and the permalink structure can be cleared by going to the Settings page of your WP-Admin, under the Permalink page, simply click on “Save Changes”.
Please try these and try making these changes again. If you keep having issues, please let us know.
