Editing changes- can’t find info
-
I logged on to make some changes to my website but many of the text editing buttons have disappeared. There’s only one row and I can’t see how to change the font or other items.
The menu used to be a few different lines and I could find what I want.
How do I find what disappeared?

Hello,
Where exactly are you trying to make these adjustments? Is this issue present in your Theme Options, or is it there when you’re attempting to edit a page?
-Kevin
Attempting to edit a page.
The editing menu (font, color, bold, etc.) used to be several lines with a lot of options, but now it’s just one line and most options are missing.Perhaps you’re referring to the new editor that’s a part of WP 5.0?
See here:
If that’s what you’re referring to and you’re not ready to make the step to the new editor, you can install this plugin and return to the original editor:
https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/classic-editor/Let me know if that helps.
-Kevin
Argh! I just installed the plug-in and now I can’t find my text.
It shows me the html but when I switch to visual it’s blank and then when I go back to code that’s gone too.
Okay, gave up on IE and tried another browser and it seems to be working (with the plug-in).
Anybody know, though, why the editing buttons seem to have disappeared with Gutenberg? My fear is that the plug-in stops working or the WordPress people decide we all need to be using Gutenberg, or when it auto-updates it reverts back.

Yeah, you should avoid IE. It’s an outdated product that isn’t up to the standards of the modern web.
Gutenberg is just a different editor all together. It can pretty much do everything the classic editor could, it’s just got a learning curve. And it’s a work in progress so some of the features it will have are not currently available.
The classic editor will be supported until 2022 at the least. By then the new editor should be pretty polished and then you can decide which route to take. Though I doubt that support for the classic editor will ever be dropped completely. A lot of people prefer it and I’m sure it will always have a place in the community.
Let me know if I can help any further!

Thanks so much.
I can’t see on Gutenberg where the editing buttons are. That they didn’t include them strikes me as more than a simple oversight.
I think they intentionally left it sparse in the default paragraph block to keep the writing process simple as possible. It seems that one of the main goals of theirs is to simplify the editor for new users in order to help get their site’s rolling as quickly as possible. For me, when you look at it from this point of view, their choices make more sense.
But for seasoned WP users, the new editor is quite alarming compared to the old one. I know I absolutely was not a fan when I started testing it earlier this year. Once you get used to it, it really isn’t that bad though. Still has some annoying bugs that need to be worked out, but in general, it seems to be a good step towards the future.
Try using a “classic” block. That should give you all the previous options of the visual editor in the block editor.
Also, feel free to take a look at our plugin that improves some of the editor features:

Sure, but changing typeface and font size? Why would they hide that?
There’s a lot of mysterious choices on their part when it comes to the new editor, so your guess is as good as mine. I know that headings are handled separately from the paragraph text through the heading block, but it’s still relatively minimal. Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?
I will note that our Advanced heading block in Kadence Blocks adds a bunch more options for font controls over the default block.
If you want to do some reading about the new editor, specifically how it pertains to Kadence themes, then you can find some posts here:
