Editing existing blog

I’m new to wordpress and am using a genesis template for my art related website. I employed someone to change my old website into a dynamic one – hence using wordpress. The site was transferred en mass so now needs updating. I’ve changed the artwork images but cannot change the blog news text. I’ve tried but it’s now showing the existing blog in code! What am I doing wrong?
