I’ve just updated the version to 5.0.1 and I can’t find the editining icons in the post page. I can’t get how it can be useful posting the page of my blog since the problem is the editing phase: I should add screenshot images but it’d no allowed. Well, I’ll try to explain: if I go in editing of my old posts, they are seen in the new way, the version 5.0.1, obviously, but I can still find “Insert Read More tag” and all the other icons, while I can’t see this button and many others in new posts. How can I make visible all the icons? And then, is it possible to came back to an older version? That si one of my problems: I can’t get why we are driven to update every few days when things work…

Prefer to stick with the familiar Classic Editor? The Classic Editor plugin restores the previous WordPress editor and the Edit Post screen. It lets you keep using plugins that extend it, add old-style meta boxes, or otherwise depend on the previous editor. To install, visit your plugins page and click the “Install Now” button next to “Classic Editor”. After the plugin finishes installing, click “Activate”. That’s it!

When you edit old posts with the new editor, then it shows the entire old post in what is called the “Classic Block”, which is very similar to the old editor, with all the old buttons and links and things. This is mainly for backward compatibility.

The new editor, where you’re not seeing the buttons, is indeed very different. The buttons show up when you need them to, they are contextual.

I made a short video the other day for another user, demonstrating how to get started with the new editor. Maybe it will help you understand what you’re seeing a bit better. Sorry for all the typos, it was at the end of a long day. 🙂

    Hope that helps!

Well, I surely need the button I said: I’m in the editing area, and I need to insert the “Read More” line, but I can’t find it. It’s not like when I need to have an image before image buttons appear. The editing area should be enough for the “Read More” icon to be shown, I think, especially considering the fact there is already something, so that the word “More” makes really sense.

I’ll watch the video to discover what this button needs in order to show up. 🙂

Ah, I see. Okay, when you watch that video, watch how I’m inserting blocks like the Image Block.

Well, there is also a “More Block”. That is the equivalent of the old read-more line in the new editor. You insert the More block where you want it in the post, and that sets your breakpoint.

I did not demonstrate it in that video, but there is also a fast block selection mechanism which you will rapidly like. When you start a new block, press the Slash character / and a dynamic block selection menu will come up. So you can type /more at the start of a new block, hit enter, and the block becomes the More block.
