Is this editor cancelled? I tried to install it and got a message saying it’s not compatible with the newest version of WordPress.

If they cancelled this, I won’t be able to use WordPress anymore. I can’t use that other messy thing.

I’m not using that new editor its terrible and too complicated. That editor is the worst thing to ever happen to the internet. I’m switching to something else. I quit.

This plugin only activates the editor that is included in the WordPress core itself. It does not provide the editor itself. However, it allows users to easily activate this editor and instead deactivates everything that comes with the new block editor in WordPress.

The compatibility message appears because this information has not been updated for 11 months. However, this does not pose a technical problem – it is just annoying and good to be aware of.

If you would like to see a change here, you are welcome to report it as an issue in Github: https://github.com/WordPress/classic-editor/issues

Very good to know! My cohorts and I prefer the Classic Editor.

I would also like to know if the Classic Editor has been abandoned. I much prefer it to the new block editor. Please, say it ain’t so!

He just said it wasn’t cancelled, but for whatever reason they aren’t updating it for new versions, so we get the annoying error message in the control panel stating it’s not compatible. You would think they would at least bring it up to current version to prevent the confusion. If the control panel says something isn’t compatible with my version of WordPress, I obviously don’t want to install it.

Edit: And that GitHub has open cases from nearly a year ago, and no signs of activity so I’m not even going to waste my time posting a report there.

Right. Sorry about that, was away for quite some time. Just updated the “Tested up to” setting for WordPress 6.9 so the message will disappear.
