For two weeks now, my editor crashes immediately on clicking a story to work on. I get the exact same error screen whether I try to click on an old published story or new draft of “Error: Should not happen” then a bunch of code below. The plugin is fully up to date and nothing significant has changed on my site to explain this complete failure of a plugin i’ve used for over a year. Please advise how to remedy the error so I can use the plug in again.

  • Hi there @bakeitbetter2023 , I’m sorry to hear you are having issues with the plugin and would like to work with you to get the plugin up and running again. Could you please share a few additional details so we can begin troubleshooting?

    1. Can you please share the whole error message and stack trace with us?
    2. Could you please share a screen recording of your experience using a service such as Loom or Recordit then share the URL here?
    3. If possible, could you check for any browser console errors in the browser dev tools and send us a screenshot, using a screenshot sharing service such as Jumpshare, Snippyly or Imgur?
    4. Your Site Health Information. You can share this using our private form.

Once we have more information we can try to determine what could be causing the issue.

I’m not comfortable posting all that information in a public forum. I provided all the information I could in the private form.

Thank you so much for sharing the information via the private form. Could you help us rule out if one of your other plugins might be conflicting with Web Stories? We will try to evaluate this on our end by testing your plugins from the Site Health info, but it might be easiest for you to test this too.

To safely simulate this you can use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.

    – Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if the issue is present.

    – Enable plugins and your theme one by one in this mode to help pinpoint if something else is involved.

I ran the suggested plugin, deactivated everything other than web stories and still received the exact same error screen.

@bakeitbetter2023 Thank you for trying. I am trying to reproduce your issue on my end. Can you please tell me what animations you applied to the text and sticker on page 2 of the chocolate chip story?

    Thread Starter bakeitbetter2023

    (@bakeitbetter2023)

I never assigned the animation, but just used one of your plug-ins templates so I don’t know what they’re called, but they weren’t changed from the templated version you all created. My animations have been the same since I started using the plugin and they’re identical for every story on my site. As I didn’t build them in myself and it was a long time ago, I don’t know what they were called, but you can see them by just watching the live story. Again, they were part of one of your plug-ins templates so maybe you can find the info you’re looking for in the template.

I just tried starting with a new random template and the editor did open normally for me so it does look like it is something with the specific template I’ve been using for over a year that is in all my stories, which again, was one designed by you all that I just stripped down a bit.

Thanks so much for the details which is helpful. I was able to reproduce the issue and we will continue to investigate this in the GitHub issue. I will follow up with you here once there are any updates.

It’s the “Fashion on the Go” template. I just opened the template itself and it opened in the editor.

If I click on pages 1, 6, 7, or 9 of that template, the editor still looks like it’s functioning normally.

If I click on pages 2, 3, 4, 5, or 8 of that template, the same error message I’ve been getting pops up and the editor crashes.

Hi there @bakeitbetter2023 ! Web Stories has recently released an updated version of the plugin which includes the fix for the issue you reported. Could you please update to version 1.29.0 and confirm the issue has subsided on your end as well? Thank you!

It looks like that worked from just a quick check. Thanks so much for getting this resolved!
